Make Data Doable: How Classroom Data Can Work Harder for You

Every lesson leaves behind data: exit tickets, quiz scores, quick checks. The challenge is acting on that information while students are still in front of you.

Data-driven instruction is powerful in theory, but in practice, it’s incredibly difficult to implement. According to a 2024 national survey, only 37 percent of educators say they have the information they need to fully support student needs. Eighty-six percent believe these gaps directly affect their ability to help students succeed. And for many, the process is still manual: 37 percent of teachers are still using spreadsheets to track learning data.

The biggest barriers? Not a lack of data, but the time, training, and system alignment needed to actually use it.

Pear Deck Learning clears that roadblock with features that translate live responses into ready-to-assign resources. You can see which students are confused, group them automatically, and push out a reteach deck or targeted practice set before class ends.

Remediation and reteaching in the same period? Possible.

We worked with educators every step of the way to develop a practical and immediate way for you to support learners in the moment and provide ready-to-go materials for remediation and reteaching. Now, we're bringing these pathways directly into the platform with our release of Instant Insights in Pear Deck and Pear Practice, and data-informed instruction in Pear Assessment’s Live Classboard.

Justin Jackson, a high school science teacher in Kentucky, was one of our early testers of Instant Insights. Hear his perspective on how he can now turn student responses in Pear Deck into instant follow-up remediation for his students.

From insight to instruction with materials ready to go

These new Pear Deck Learning features are powered by AI, designed specifically to support data-driven instruction. Built alongside educators, these features support your instruction by quickly interpreting student responses, identifying common struggles, and creating ready-to-use learning materials for next steps. These features work within the tools you already use in Pear Deck Learning, offering differentiated instructional paths without extra steps or additional planning time.

Here’s what that looks like across the platform:

Instant Insights in Pear Deck

Instant Insights is a real-time reflection tool that turns every Pear Deck session into the gateway for seamless differentiated instruction. It surfaces actionable performance and engagement-based data from the session, providing an immediate understanding of how well students grasped the lesson topics and their overall participation.

What you can do immediately:

  • Spot engagement: See who’s tuned in and who may need support.

  • Smart grouping: Automatically get suggested groups based on shared misconceptions.

  • Ready-made follow-ups: Generate differentiated Pear Decks or Pear Practice sets, pre-built around the specific areas students struggled with.

With Instant Insights, you can assign targeted follow-up homework or student-paced decks before students leave the room.

Teachers with a School or District subscription to Pear Deck will automatically see Instant Insights pop up at the end of a Pear Deck Lesson. You can also access Instant Insights in Session History

Instant Insights in Pear Practice

The same actionable insights are coming to Pear Practice in early fall of this year. You’ll soon be able to turn gamified practice directly into targeted instruction or extension activities without leaving your Pear Practice session.

What you’ll be able to do:

  • Quickly see who is excelling and who needs extra practice.

  • Instantly form student groups based on common areas of need.

  • Assign focused reinforcement or extension activities directly from the results page.

Data-informed instruction in Pear Assessment’s Live Classboard

Every teacher knows the familiar feeling of looking at assessment results and wondering how to respond effectively. Now, Pear Assessment’s Live Classboard makes moving from “test” to “teach” possible in just a few clicks.

How it works:

  • Pinpoint gaps: Quickly use the Standards Mastery Report to highlight low-performing standards.

  • Identify specific student needs: Immediately see which students struggled on each standard.

  • Instantly create follow-up materials: With one click, generate SmartBuild quizzes or differentiated Pear Decks, Pear Practice sets, or Pear Assessments aligned precisely to those standards, pre-filled with the right students.

By connecting assessment results directly to instructional materials, you can close gaps faster and reclaim class time for deeper learning.

Make data usable, not just visible

When insight connects directly to instruction, students get help when it counts, and learning keeps its momentum. These updates make data usable in the moment, so you can reteach, reinforce, or extend without rebuilding materials after school. They fit the way you already teach, respect your judgment, and help ensure every student gets timely support.

With Instant Insights and Pear Assessment’s data-informed instruction, the gap between “what the data says” and “what to do next” has never been smaller.
