What’s New in Pear Assessment: Q3 Releases

Pear Assessment

We’ve released several new updates for Pear Assessment this quarter, focused on helping you spend less time managing tools and tasks and more time acting on student data. Read on to see what’s new.

Seamless Folder Sharing for Tests & Assignments

With Folder Sharing in Pear Assessment, you can organize your assessments and assignments into dedicated folders and share entire folders directly with colleagues across your school or district. Curriculum leads, departments, and grade-level teams can build a unified, collaborative hub for common curriculum units, so you can skip creating separate folders and reduce extra overhead. Assessment security is preserved when you share, so your content stays protected.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS:

Folder-Level Sharing for Tests & Assignments: Share an entire folder from the Test Library or Assignment List with specific district colleagues or district-wide in just a few clicks.

Role-Based Access Control: Assign collaborators as Viewers (view-only access to browse contents) or Editors (can add, remove, and organize contents within the shared folder).

Permission Independence & Security: Sharing a folder does not automatically alter or compromise the underlying permissions of individual assessments or student submissions. You only see and interact with assessments that you are authorized to access.

Visual Ownership Badges: Distinct folder icons and visual indicators clearly show whether you are the Folder Owner, an Editor, or a Viewer.

HOW TO GET STARTED:

1. Navigate to Tests or Assignments from the left navigation bar.

2. Click the Folders tab or expand your folder tree in the left pane.

3. Hover over the desired folder, click the Three Dots (⋮) menu, and select Share.

4. Search for colleagues by name or email, choose their permission level (Viewer or Editor), and click Share.

100-Question Bubble Sheet Printing & Enhanced Scanning

Pear Assessment’s expanded paper-to-digital testing now supports full 100-item bubble sheets, breaking past the legacy 40-question limit so you can run your longest, highest-stakes evaluations on paper. Manage paper and digital assessments in one unified platform, with no need for external tools or standalone scanning hardware, so your school or district can standardize all assessment data in one place. Upgraded optical scanning accuracy helps ensure your results are captured reliably as well.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS:

Support for Up to 100 Items: Print, distribute, and grade bubble sheets for comprehensive evaluations, semester finals, midterms, and benchmark exams directly within Pear Assessment.

High-Fidelity Scanning Engine: Detect pencil markings with higher accuracy using upgraded scanning algorithms, significantly reducing misreads and re-scans on high-density sheets.

Unified Reporting: View paper-based responses in Pear Assessment’s reporting suite and Live Class Board alongside digital submissions.

HOW TO GET STARTED:

1. Open any assessment containing up to 100 multiple-choice questions from your Test Library.

2. Assign the test to your class, or select an active assignment from the Assignments page.

3. In the Live Class Board (LCB) top-right menu, select Generate Bubble Sheet.

4. To grade, open the Live Class Board (LCB) and click Scan Bubble Sheets and upload the filled bubble sheet PDF.

Pear Assist (Beta) -  Generating Test-Level Metadata and Rubric Suggestions

With Pear Assist (Beta), you can streamline test creation by skipping manual tagging of each assessment item. It automatically generates item metadata, including standards, Depth of Knowledge (DoK), and difficulty, and lets you select and apply a rubric across all relevant items in a single flow. Spend less time on administrative work while keeping assessments consistent and aligned with the standards and instructional goals essential to tracking student progress and applying interventions.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS:

Test-Level Rubric Selection: Choose and apply existing rubrics across all constructed-response items.

Automated Metadata Generation: Uses AI to generate standards, Depth of Knowledge (DoK), and difficulty levels for missing test items in a single flow.

Full Review & Control: Maintain full authority to review, modify, and confirm all metadata suggestions and assigned rubrics before saving.

Privacy & Security: User information is kept private, and assessment data processed by AI is never used to train models.

HOW TO GET STARTED:

1. Navigate to the Test Review page. If eligible, locate the Pear Assist option in the right-hand panel.

Access the Feature

2. Review and confirm the Grade, Standard Set, and (optionally) select a Rubric from your list.
