#BackToSchool With Pear Deck
Summer is over and we’re all gearing up for the new school year. Here at Pear Deck we’re very lucky, the new school year means even more opportunities to support our amazing community of passionate and inspired educators. Our goal is to give you the tools to achieve 100% student engagement every day.
We’ve been hard at work this summer to create a ton of new features that make Pear Deck even better! As we all ramp up for the new school year, here are some of my favorite new additions and things to look forward to this Fall.
Pear Deck Vocabulary
Have you heard? We are releasing a new app for learning vocabulary and our first game, Flashcard Factory! In fact, 7,000 educators signed up to get early access and we are thrilled! A few teachers are already testing it out and we’re inviting more people into the app week by week. Check out this video to see how it works and get on the list to be among the first in the world to get access!
Get Excited About Gifs
You asked for it, we found a way! Now you can add Gifs to your Pear Deck! Just upload your .GIF file in the image block on your slide.
New Dashboard Features
If you haven’t checked it out yet, we have a new Teacher Dashboard! Two of my favorite elements make it easier than ever to view and share student answers with the class.
Curate Answers with Stars
With Stars, you can quickly curate examples to share with the class.
As students answer your question, you can see their responses on your private Teacher Dashboard in real time. When you spot an answer that you want to share, just tap the star next to the answer. Now when you display the answers on the Projector View, only the starred answers will show up!
To select an answer to highlight, just tap the Star at the bottom right of the answer.
You can project the starred answers to the classroom. But don’t worry! The student names won’t be shown, keeping everything completely anonymous.
New Ways Of Viewing Answers
I really like being able to change how responses display. Sometimes I want to look at one answer really big, and sometimes I want to see as many answers as possible at once. Sometimes I want to overlay them all. Now I can choose how to see answers just by tapping the layout icons at the top of the screen. This works from both the Teacher Dashboard and the Projector View. You can also sort answers by Time, Response or Student making it easier than ever to see what’s going on at a glance.

It doesn’t happen often, but sometimes you have an uninvited visitor in your Session. Perhaps one of your students shared the code with a friend in another class who is now distracting the class. Or maybe someone is being inappropriate and you need to manage that situation. Whatever the reason, it’s nice to know that you can block a participant when necessary. To do so, you’ll need to go to your Classroom Roster to block or unblock the participant.

Instant Save For Responses
It used to be that students had to click “Post” before their text responses would show up. No longer! Now their answers update immediately. This is really nice for two reasons: 1) You can see what your students are thinking in real time, and quickly notice if someone is getting stuck, and 2) If you advance the slide before someone is done typing, they haven’t lost their whole thought.
Back-to-School Ice Breakers
If you are just getting back to school and meeting a new group of students, we’ve put together a a couple of super easy and fun Decks to help you and your class get to know each other! Click on either of these decks to go right to The Orchard where you can copy them to your drive and start breaking that ice!
